Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must enroll full time (12 credit hours or more per semester).
  2. Must be a legal resident of Georgia for 12 consecutive months or more immediately preceding the date of registration at the institution for the school term for which a grant is being sought.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who meets the definition of an eligible non-citizen under federal Title IV requirements.
  4. Must be enrolled at a participating college or university. Currently, only Mercer University participates in this program.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must be enrolled in an engineering program.
  7. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher if currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior.
  8. Must be or plan to be an undergraduate student.

Description: This award is available to U.S. undergraduate students who are residents of Georgia and pursuing an engineering program at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. The student must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher if a sophomore, junior, or senior.

Additional Information: The Scholarship for Engineering Education Loan Program is funded by the Georgia Lottery for Education and administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC). The purpose of the program is to attract undergraduate students into the engineering profession by offering financial assistance and to provide qualified engineers for the State of Georgia. In return for the scholarship loan, students agree to work after graduation in an engineering-related field in Georgia for a reduction in balance of up to $3,500 for each year worked. All applicants must meet the following criteria: not owe a refund on a grant or scholarship previously received under any state of Georgia or federal program for attendance at any postsecondary educational institution; not be in default on a loan previously obtained under any state of Georgia or federal program for attendance at any postsecondary educational institution; and not yet have obtained a baccalaureate degree.

Award Amount: The award is for a service-cancelable loan of up to $3,500 annually, renewable for a maximum of 10 terms and $17,500. Recipients must complete a renewal application each award year and continue to meet all of the eligibility requirements.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,431.
