In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be of Hispanic descent.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must major in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Naval Architecture, or Physics.
  4. Must be enrolled full-time (12 hrs undergraduate) during the academic year.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must attend any Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), Historically Black College or University (HBCU) or any of the following institutions: Califonia Polytechnic San Luis Obispo; California Institute of Technology; Georgia Institute of Technology; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; North Carolina State University; Ohio State University; Pennsylvania State University; Purdue University; University of California, Los Angeles; University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; University of Maryland; University of Michigan; University of Southern California; University of Virginia; Virginia Polytechnic University
  7. This award is for U.S. students.
  8. Must be an incoming sophomore, junior or senior student in college.

Additional Information: The SHPE Foundation provides Scholarship Programs designed to enhance and achieve the potential of Latino students pursuing degrees in engineering, math, and science. This Merit-based scholarship is awarded to qualified undergraduate students who demonstrate both significant motivation and aptitude for a career in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Scholarship recipients will be notified by October 1st.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually. Students may re-apply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Foundation website. As part of the application package, students must include: a personal Statement: official transcript(s); a recommendation letter; a resume; a dissertation abstract; an official Statement of Advancement to Candidacy from the Graduate College/Department (if applicable); and submit the Scholarship Certification Form. The application and required materials must be submitted as one complete package to the SHPE foundation and must be received no later than the deadline date.
