Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies according to the funds available.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Texas.
  3. Must attend a Texas public or private, non-profit college or university.
  4. Must pursue a major in public affairs, public service, or public administration.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be enrolled as a graduate student.

Description: This award is available to U.S. graduate students who are residents of Texas and who attend a Texas college or university. Students must be enrolled in a public affairs, public service, or public administration program.

Application requirements for the Texas Kenneth H. Ashworth Fellowship Program are:

Additional Information: The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance to students with financial need who are enrolled in graduate programs in public affairs, public service or public administration. The recipient is selected by a committee at the coordinating board. The committee will rank applicants and select the recipients of awards for the following academic year. In determining student eligibility the committee shall consider at a minimum the following factors relating to each applicant: academic ability and promise; career plans; and individual qualifications, with emphasis on leadership and communication skills. Students must demonstrate financial need and register for the selective Service or be exempt from this requirement. Students must also intend to work in Texas after completing a graduate program.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Award information is available online on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) website by clicking on the "State and Federal Grants and Scholarships" link. Students do not apply for this award directly. The deans of colleges of public affairs, public service, and public administration at eligible colleges or universities may submit applications for two students per year to the THECB. Each participating institution may require students to submit additional forms and processes before eligibility can be determined. Students must contact the participating institution for additional details on how to apply. Applications submitted by deans are due to the THECB by Feb. 20 of each year.
