Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of California, or attending a college in California.
  2. Must be accepted to or currently enrolled in a graduate level program.
  3. Must be majoring in library science.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This award is available for graduate students who are majoring in library sciences and planning to pursue a career as a children's or young adult librarian. Applicants must be a resident of California or attending a college in California.

  • Recommendation letter (2)
  • Proof of enrollment
Additional Information: The Fellowship has been offered annually since 1993. It is provided by Reference Service Press, the only publishing company in the United States specializing solely in the development of print and electronic sources of information on financial aid for specific groups, including women, minorities, the disabled, individuals interested in going abroad, and veterans, military personnel, and their dependents.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Information about this award is available at the California Library Association website at the address provided. In addition to the completed online application form, students must submit the following items: official transcripts for all coursework completed; proof of acceptance or enrollment in an ACA-accredited library science program; a short biographical statement including the applicant's interest in library studies; two letters of recommendation that are specific to the fellowship; and an essay describing the applicant's future career plans. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online by the deadline date.
