The Foundation of Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance (AFWA)

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In prior years, twelve scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must major in accounting or finance.
  3. Must have completed her sophomore year of college or higher (or 60 credit hours or the equivalent) at the time of the application deadline. The scholarship is intended to support the costs of attending the third, fourth, or fifth years of study.
  4. Must be a female.
  5. Must have a cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Female students who have completed at least their sophomore year of college (i.e., 60 credit hours) and are majoring in accounting or finance are eligible for this scholarship. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The mission of the Foundation is to promote and advance education, career development, and leadership in finance and accounting, with the goal of guiding women to achieve success in their careers. Scholarship candidates will be reviewed on leadership, character, communication skills, scholastic average, and financial need. Scholarships will be awarded in May.

Award Amount: The award amount varies. In prior years, there were $22,000 in scholarships awarded. Awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,467.

Applications are available on The Foundation of Accounting & Finance Women's Alliance (AFWA) website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following supporting documents: an essay of 150 to 250 words describing her career goals/objectives, what impact she wants to have on the accounting and financial world, community involvement, and leadership examples; an official transcript of all work leading to exam eligibility; and an endorsement form from an AFWA chapter or member (optional). Transcripts may be mailed or emailed using the contact information provided. All other application materials must be emailed. Application materials must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EDT on the deadline date.
