This program was established by the Vermont Legislature to respond to a dentist shortage in Vermont and to ensure an adequate number of dentists to meet the future healthcare needs of Vermonters, including increased access for the Medicaid population. Funding for this program is conditional on annual legislative appropriation. Partial/complete forgiveness of the interest-free loan will occur under the following conditions: (1) completion of a training program leading to eligibility to sit for dental licensure exams; (2) a successful passing grade on the NDBE and Vermont state licensing exams; and (3) completion of one year of employment as a dentist in Vermont. Employment must average no less than 20 hours/week; recipients are expected to accept patients with coverage under Medicaid or other state-funded health care benefit programs. Selection for this program is based on application documents and academic achievement.
