Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a full-time student.
  4. Must pursue training or advanced education as a doctor of medicine, medical technologist, or clinical laboratory scientist. For medical school students, preference will be given to those pursuing Pathology.
  5. Must be a high school graduate or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  6. Must be a resident of Racine or Milwaukee County at the time of application OR a graduate of a high school in Racine or Milwaukee County.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Full-time students enrolled in an accredited clinical laboratory scientist/medical technologist program or in medical school are eligible for this award. Students must be residents of Racine or Milwaukee County at the time of application or a graduates of a high school in Racine or Milwaukee County.

Additional Information: Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria: financial need, academic achievement, personal qualities and strengths, and their letters of recommendation. To simplify interviews and administration, preference will be given to candidates from Wisconsin who are attending an educational institution in Wisconsin. Each candidate will be notified of his/her application status by April 1.

Award Amount: $1,000 or more annually, non-renewable. Last year, the recipient received $2,500.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online from the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation (WMSF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit a one page personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application as well as stressing how he/she has demonstrated empathy, recognition of colleagues, passion for learning and the desire to share his/her knowledge to educate colleagues and patients; a transcript of recent high school or higher education work; and two letters of recommendation, preferably from school officials who can discuss his/her academic and personal achievements as well as his/her potential for future success. If the applicant has applied for financial aid at his/her institution for the current academic year, he/she should enclose a copy of the financial award letter. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
