Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have completed a bachelor's degree by July 1 of the upcoming year, and be enrolled in an eligible graduate program.
  3. Must be enrolled in a wildlife biology, wildlife management, or related natural resources program, with an interest in research on wild felids (cats).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. and international graduate students who are studying in a graduate program in wildlife biology, wildlife management, or a related natural resource field, with an interest in wild felids. Students must have completed a bachelor's degree by July 1 of the award year.

Additional Information: Applications will be evaluated based on: demonstrated need for financial aid; participation in a research project that aims to improve understanding of wild felid biology, management and/or conservation; and undergraduate and graduate grade point average. The scholarship will be awarded in the summer. Recipients of the Wild Felid Legacy Scholarship agree to provide an update of their research in the 'Wild Felid Monitor'.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Scholarship information is available online on the Wild Felid Research and Management Association (WFA) website. There is no application form for this award; students are considered by submitting the required materials. To be considered for this award, the student must submit the following: a current resume; a transcript indicating completion of a bachelor's degree; a transcript of his/her graduate studies or a copy of his/her acceptance letter into an eligible graduate program; an essay of 500 to 750 words describing his/her interests in wild felid research, his/her career goals, how he/she would use the award to further his/her professional development, and his/her demonstration of financial need; and two letters of reference with phone numbers and email addresses. One reference shall be from a professor familiar with the student's academic capabilities and accomplishments. The second reference shall be from a supervisor whom the student worked for in a natural resources-related position (volunteer or internship work is acceptable). Please note: Students must be members of WFA to apply. If the student is not already a member, he/she may send his/her membership application along with the scholarship application materials. Membership information and applications are available on the WFA website by clicking on the 'Membership' link. Student membership is $20 per year. Applicants are encouraged by WFA to send their resumes and essays electronically. Emailed copies of scanned transcripts are also acceptable (the scholarship committe may ask for certified transcripts prior to final selection). References may also send their letters electroncially.
