Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In the 2012-2013 academic year, there were 13 awards given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Wisconsin.
  3. Must be enrolled in a program that prepares students to be licensed as teachers of the visually impaired or as orientation and mobility instructors.
  4. Must enroll on a half-time basis or greater.
  5. Must attend an eligible college or university located in Wisconsin or in an adjacent state (Illinois, Iowa, Michigan or Minnesota).
  6. Must be a U.S citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  7. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Wisconsin resident undergraduate and graduate students who are attending a college or university that offers programs for teachers of visually impaired students, located in Wisconsin or in an adjacent state (Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, or Minnesota).

Application requirements for the Wisconsin Teacher of the Visually Impaired Loan are:

Additional Information: The Teacher of the Visually Impaired Loan Program provides loans to Wisconsin resident undergraduates or graduate students who are enrolled at least half-time at an in-state or eligible out-of-state institution in a program that prepares them to be licensed as teachers of the visually impaired or as orientation and mobility instructors. Recipients must agree to be a licensed teacher or an orientation or mobility instructor in a Wisconsin school district, the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired or a cooperative educational service agency. For each of the first two years the student teaches and meets the eligibility criteria, 25 percent of the loan is forgiven. For the third year, 50 percent is forgiven. If the student does not teach and meet the eligibility criteria, the loan must be repaid at an interest rate of 5 percent.

Award Amount: This program provides forgivable loans of up to $10,000 per year, and renewable for up to a total overall maximum of $40,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,615.
