Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two or more awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average above a 3.3.
  3. Must be in the top 10 percent of graduating class.
  4. Must have an SAT score of 2000 or higher.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident alien.
  6. Must pursue a career in applied science, biochemistry, microbiology, biology, chemistry, botany, chemical engineering, computer science, entomology, environmental engineering, environmental science, mathematics, mechanical engineering, molecular genetics, pharmacy/pharmacology, physics/physiology, or zoology.
  7. Must enroll full time at an accredited four-year college or university.
  8. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: This award is available for U.S. high school seniors who are pursuing a career in an eligible scientific field. Students must have a grade point average above a 3.3, be in the top 10 percent of graduating class, and have an SAT score of 2000 or higher.

Application requirements for the SAPA Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program are:

  • AP/Honors class list
Additional Information: An independent review committee appointed by the foundation will evaluate all valid applications and recommend the most outstanding nominees for consideration by the foundation board of trustees. At least two scholars will be selected from the group of finalists. To receive payments, a SAPA Scholar must submit an acceptance letter of the scholarship, and provide a direct deposit account at the attending college or university to deposit scholarship payments. Applicants are evaluated on demonstrated potential for and commitment to a career in the life sciences, and outstanding academic performance.

Award Amount: At least $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available on the Sino-American Pharmaceutical Professionals Association (SAPA) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: a 600-word essay addressing the topic listed on the application; two letters of recommendation from teachers who can discuss the student's potential for a career in the life sciences, including a teacher in the applicant's field of study and another who can attest to the applicant's potential; a list of awards received; and a list of Advanced Placement or Honors courses with grades (optional). The applicant should enclose all the materials, including the sealed recommendation letters, in one package. The application must be postmarked by the deadline.
