Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually. *Please note: This scholarship is only offered every other year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. resident.
  3. Must be enrolled as a college junior at time of application.
  4. Must be enrolled full time.
  5. Must have a declared major in mechanical engineering or an automotive-related engineering discipline at a college or university accredited by ABET. Preference will be given to those individuals with studies/courses in the areas of expertise related to noise and vibration (e.g., statics, dynamics, physics, vibration).

Additional Information: This scholarship was established to honor Ralph K. Hillquist, a retiree from General Motors Proving Grounds, and is funded by the SAE Noise & Vibration Conference and related activities. Mr. Hillquist was the founder of the conference, and served on its general committee. Applications will be judged on the basis of academic performance and leadership activities, with additional consideration given for special study or honors in the field of the award. Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30. All SAE scholarship winners will be posted in July/August.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) website by clicking on the "Senior Year of College Scholarships" link. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the an official college transcript. Application materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
