Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In prior academic years, there were four awards given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a legal resident of Delaware.
  3. Must pursue a master's degree in speech-language pathology.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  5. Must enroll full time. Please note: Employees of a Delaware public school or a contracted provider of a Birth to 3 Early Intervention System program serving infants and toddlers may enroll part time.
  6. Must be enrolled in a graduate level program.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Delaware students who are enrolled full time in a graduate program leading to a speech-language pathologist license. Recipients must seek employment as a licensed speech pathologist in a Delaware public school or a contracted provider of a Birth to 3 Early Intervention System program serving infants and toddlers for loan forgiveness.

Application requirements for the Delaware Speech-Language Pathologist Incentive Program are:

  • Application form
  • FAFSA prior to application deadline.
Additional Information: Applications are evaluated based on the student's academic record, community service, and financial need. Please note: Students enrolling in undergraduate and graduate-level speech-language pathology and audiology degree programs may also be eligible for in-state tuition at public colleges in 15 southern states via the Academic Common Market.

Award Amount: The award is in the form of a forgivable loan and cannot exceed the recipient's cost of tuition, mandatory fees, and other direct educational expenses. The award is renewable for one additional year. The loan will be forgiven at a rate of two years of employment as a licensed speech pathologist in a Delaware public school or a contracted provider of a Birth to 3 Early Intervention System program serving infants and toddlers for one year of loan.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available at the Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO) website. Most DHEO programs will require the student to submit additional documents including an unofficial transcript, SAT scores, and updated college enrollment information by the scholarship deadline. Students should follow the instructions in the Common Merit Application carefully. The Common Merit Application must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline date.
