The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must attend Penn State College of Medicine-Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
  4. Must be a full-time student.
  5. Must be a bona fide resident of Pennsylvania for 12 months or more before registering as a medical student (not including time spent attending an undergraduate/graduate school in Pennsylvania).
  6. Must major in medicine.
  7. Must be in his/her second year of medical school.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to a deserving Pennsylvania second-year medical student attending Penn State College of Medicine at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Additional Information: This medical scholarship was established by the Dauphin County Medical Society in memory of its past president, Scott A. Gunder, M.D.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available on The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation, documenting his/her integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as a future physician from persons who know the applicant well (other than family members); a letter, on school letterhead, from Penn State College of Medicine verifying that he/she is enrolled full time at the institution and is a second-year medical student; and a typed one-page essay (12-pt. type, double spaced) addressing the topic listed on the website. A personal interview is not required; however, it may be requested. Application materials must be postmarked by the deadline.
