Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of Kent County, Michigan.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of application.
  4. Must be majoring in medicine or pre-med with the intention of becoming a medical doctor.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Additional Information: The Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually, primarily to Kent County students bound for or in college, or those pursuing a technical career. The Dr. Noyes L. Avery, Jr. & Ann E. Avery Scholarship is provided annually to support the medical studies of Kent County residents. Selection is based on academic performance and financial need.

Award Amount: Awards range from $500 to $5,000 depending on the student's unmet need and the availability of funds. Average awards are about $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

In addition to the online application form, an interested student must submit transcripts (official or unofficial), an essay describing his/her personal and professional aspirations, and documentation such as the FAFSA Student Aid report that proves financial need.
