Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Delaware.
  4. Must be accepted at an accredited school of medicine.
  5. Must enroll as a medical student in the fall of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.
  6. Must enroll full time.
  7. Must be active in community service.

Additional Information: To ensure complete impartiality in selection of recipients and to maintain a high level of professionalism, DCF programs are administered by AcademicWorks, a firm that specializes in managing sponsored scholarship programs. Awards will be based on the applicant's demonstrated commitment to pursuing the highest standards of excellence, ethics, and compassion in the medical profession, as well as his/her academic promise and financial need. Special consideration will be given to applicants demonstrating an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to medicine. Eligibility will not be based on gender, race or ethnic background, national origin, or sexual orientation. Applicants will be ranked by each scholarship committee member on the basis of financial need; demonstrated academic promise; recommendation by a teacher, guidance counselor, or other appropriate party; and an essay.

Award Amount: The award amount varies each year, and is at the discretion of the DCF Board of Directors. Recipients are eligible to re-apply in successive years for a maximum of four annual awards. The same criteria will be used to determine renewal awards.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available online on the Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) website. Students must apply via the online application system, and will be required to register an account using their email address to access the application. Students need only submit one application to be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. Each student must upload the following supporting documents to the application: college/university transcript; a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report), which is generated after filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); a copy of his/her or his/her parent's recent federal tax return (Form 1040) showing Adjusted Gross Income (AGI); an essay of 300 words or less describing his/her future goals; an essay of 500 words or less explaining how a family member, mentor, or personal experience has been influential in his/her life; and contact information for a personal recommendation. The recommendation should be from someone outside his/her family who is familiar with his/her character through school, community, religious, and/or extracurricular activities. The recommender will be sent instructions for uploading his/her letter. The application and all supporting documents must be received by the deadline.
