Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  2. Must be pursuing a first master's or doctoral degree.
  3. Must be employed full-time in the U.S. or Puerto Rico in a STEM-related career field.
  4. Must be enrolled at least half time (six or more credit hours) throughout the academic year.
  5. Must major in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) degree program.
  6. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  7. Must be a professional member of SHPE in good standing at time of application and throughout the academic year.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for students who are employed in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)-related field and are enrolled in a first undergraduate or graduate degree program in a STEM field. Students must be members of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. Students of Hispanic descent will be given priority.

Application requirements for the SHPE Professional Scholarship are:

  • Resume
Additional Information: Applicants are not required to be of Hispanic descent, but those who are will be given priority. The scholarship will be awarded upon the basis of academic standing and financial need.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Previous recipients may reapply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) website. The application must be completed via the SHPE STARS online application system. Students must create a login and password before using the system. Each student will be required to upload the following documents to the online application: a personal statement; a resume that is no longer than two pages and includes information about education, work, and volunteer background and experience; his/her most recent transcript; and at least one letter of recommendation. The student is encouraged to provide a letter from a teacher or professor who can speak to his/her academic performance and interest in STEM. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
