Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually. Please note: The Foundation reserves the right to make no award or to award a prize or prizes totaling less than the full amount.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled full time.
  3. Must be currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program. Students who have been accepted for future enrollment are NOT eligible.
  4. Must be a degree candidate in one of the following majors: jazz and studio music, jazz composing and arranging, jazz performance, jazz performance and pedagogy, jazz studies, jazz studies and contemporary media.
  5. Must submit three recordings of his/her recent performances to enter.
  6. Must attend one of the accredited U.S. colleges/universities listed on the BMI Foundation website.

Description: This scholarship is open to current master's and doctoral students at select U.S. institutions who are degree candidates in one of the following majors: jazz and studio music, jazz composing and arranging, jazz performance, jazz performance and pedagogy, jazz studies, jazz studies and contemporary media. Students must submit three recordings of recent performances to enter.

Additional Information: Applications will be judged on evidence of talent and potential as a jazz performer and composer. Applications must be submitted online no later than Tuesday, January 22, 2021, 11:59pm EST. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Applicants are required to submit the following: Three recordings (MP3 or MP4a files) of recent performances. At least one of these performed works must be original. There are no limitations as to age, style, instrumentation, or voice. Track listing that includes title, composer, and performance information for each submitted recording. A chart or score of any recording submission that is an original work.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
