Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a native-born or naturalized U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have reached his/her 19th birthday, but not his/her 26th birthday, by the application deadline date.
  4. Must play the flute.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is open to U.S. students who are 19 to 25 years of age. Students must record themselves performing the required flute repertoire to enter.

Application requirements for the NFMC Ernest A. Bluhm Flute Award are:

  • Application form
  • CD performance
  • Membership in NFMC (if applicable)
Additional Information: This award is funded by the Ernest A. Bluhm Endowment.

Award Amount: $600 annually, non-renewable. Please note: In the event of financial shortfalls, advertised award amounts may be adjusted. Applicants would be notified of the award change.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $700.

Applications are available on the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) website by clicking on the 'Student Collegiate Division' link. To enter, the student must record himself/herself playing a repertoire that meets the requirements listed on the application (memory not required). The performance must be a minimum of 15 minutes and a maximum of 20 minutes, and must be recorded to a CD. The CD must be playable on a CD player; entries that are playable only on a computer will be disqualified. In addition, if the student is not currently a member of the NFMC, he/she must apply for individual student membership and include a $16 check for membership dues with the application. The student must mail three copies of the application, his/her performance CD, and the performance repertoire list to the address provided. Entries must be postmarked by the deadline date.
