Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a native-born or naturalized U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have reached his/her 19th birthday, but not his/her 26th birthday, by the application deadline date.
  4. Must play the violin.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. students who are 19 to 25 years of age. Students must submit a recorded performance of themselves playing the violin.

Application requirements for the NFMC Oscar Valentin Award are:

  • Application form
  • Tape/CD of performance
  • NFMC dues if needed
Additional Information: This award was specified in the will of Shirley Wilkins Valentin and given in memory of Oscar Valentin. Mrs. Valentin was a violinist, violist, vocalist, and composer, who used her music as an avocation. She performed in three community orchestras, two chamber orchestras, and numerous other functions in her home state of Ohio.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable. Please note: In the event of financial shortfalls, advertised award amounts may be adjusted. Applicants would be notified of the award change.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.
