Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must be a resident of and attend high school in Hyde Park, New York.
  4. Must plan to major in a medical field.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Description: This award is available for graduating high school seniors in the Hyde Park school district who are planning to pursue an undergraduate degree in a medical field.

Application requirements for the William J. Nichols Medical Scholarship are:

  • Essay
Additional Information: Established by the Hyde Park Rotary in honor of Mr. Nichols, funds from this trust provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors living in the Hyde Park School District who have plans to pursue a career in a medical field.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Community Foundation of Hudson Valley website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
