Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two scholarships of $1,500 each.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must also be a resident of Minnesota or Western Wisconsin or attending school in Minnesota or Western Wisconsin.
  2. Must have Volunteer hours.
  3. Must be pursuing a career in healthcare.
  4. Must have at least a GPA of 2.0 on 4.0 scale.
  5. Must show Financial Need.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The annual EMPOWER Scholarship encourages and supports ethnically diverse students who are pursuing a career in a medical or rehabilitation field, accepted to or enrolled in a post high school program. Selection is based on the applicant’s stated intentions, past achievements, need, and graduation ranking.

Application requirements for the EMPOWER Scholarships are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • FAFSA
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript.
Additional Information: EMPOWER stands for Encourage Minority Participation in Occupations with Emphasis on Rehabilitation. The EMPOWER Scholarship, administered by Courage Kenny Foundation, encourages and supports ethnically diverse students who are pursuing a career in a medical or rehabilitation field. The scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from the David M. Hersey Endowment Fund of the Courage Kenny Foundation.

Award Amount: The winner of the EMPOWER Scholarships will receive $1,500. Scholarship is non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

To apply for the EMPOWER Scholarships, students must complete the application form and send supportive documents by mail. All applications must be submitted by the deadline date.
