Number of Awards & Eligibility: One or more awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must major in agronomy, horticulture, botany, or a closely-related discipline.
  4. Must be either a permanent resident of Texas OR be attending an accredited four-year college or university in Texas.
  5. Must be entering his/her junior or senior year of college at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. college juniors and seniors who are either Texas residents or attending a college in Texas. Students must be majoring in agronomy, horticulture, botany, or a closely-related discipline.

Additional Information: The South Texas Unit of The Herb Society of America, Inc. is a non-profit, service and educational organization founded in 1968. The Herb Society of America is dedicated to promoting the knowledge, use and delight of herbs through educational programs, research and sharing the experience of its members with the community.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available on the South Texas Unit of The Herb Society of America website. Applications may also be obtained from the student's department chair or financial aid office. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a recent copy of his/her grades from all institutions attended; a letter of recommendation from a professor or guidance counselor (must be on school stationery in a sealed envelope); and a two- to three-paragraph summary of his/her short- and long-term career goals, including any examples of special interests or projects in plants, herbs, gardening, etc. All materials must be enclosed in one envelope and mailed to the address provided by the deadline date.
