Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be within a year of graduating high school OR in college OR graduate school.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  5. Must create an original costume design in any genre.

Description: This scholarship competition is open to U.S. high school seniors and currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students who present a costume design of any genre. Students must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.

Application requirements for the NCA Creative Event Scholarship are:

Additional Information: All applicants must present a one-minute video presentation of their completed costume on or before May 31, 2017. A jury of costume designers from the NCA will select up to 12 finalists to present their costumes at a runway presentation at the NCA Convention. The convention will be held in Columbus, OH July 20-21, 2017. Finalists will be notified via email and followed by a letter on or before June 4, 2017 A written project presentation must be on display at the appointed time and place at the Convention in July 2017. The student must provide his/her own model for the runway presentation at the convention. Students who cannot participate in person may participate via Skype. Such students should contact the event chairperson for more information. The costumes will be judged on: runway presentation, craftsmanship, presentation, thoroughness of display materials, and compliance to the rules.

Award Amount: Scholarships will be awarded in the following amounts: $1,500; $1,000; and $500. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. All finalists will receive a one-year student membership in the NCA.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online on the National Costumers Association (NCA) website. An eligible student must submit a copy of his/her transcript and an original costume design of his/her choice. The costume may be in any genre and cannot exceed eight feet in height. The costume must be completed on $100 or less of purchased materials. The student will need to provide a typed runway description that can be read in one minute or less. Students must be supervised by a mentor or instructor, and that person must sign the student's application. The application must be submitted via email to the address listed by 5:00 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
