Number of Awards & Eligibility: 4 to 6 awards offered each year based on the number of eligible applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be 17 years of age or older.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher. An above-average grade point average is preferable.
  3. Must study in a field relating to the costume industry. Business courses may also qualify.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college or university.

Description: This award is available to U.S. students who are 17 years of age or older and are pursuing a course of study relating to the costume industry. The student must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher; an above-average grade point average is preferable.

Additional Information: The Memorial Fund Committee of the NCA shall award the scholarships during the annual meeting of the organization. The Chairperson will notify recipients within two weeks of the meeting at which time the applicant has to accept or reject the scholarship. Upon receiving the completed and signed acceptance form, the NCA will disburse checks payable to the university or school designated on the application form.

Award Amount: The award amount ranges from $500 to $1,500 annually, non-renewable. Dollar amounts of awards will be determined by the amount of funds available and number of applicants meeting qualifications at the time of submission of application.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the National Costumers Association (NCA) website. As part of the application, the student must provide contact information for three references.In addition to the application, the student must also submit a copy of his/her online transcript, a photo (preferably a headshot), a biography of 100 words or less, and an essay of 500 words or more detailing his/her field of study and how it applies to the costume industry. The application and all required materials must be submitted electronically to the email address listed with a "return reply requested" and be received by the deadline date.
