Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must reside in Coos County, New Hampshire, or surrounding border communities in northeast Essex County, Vermont.
  4. Must be enrolled or accepted into a two-year or four-year postsecondary degree or advanced certificate institution. Awards will not be made for graduate study.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. students who are enrolled or have been accepted into a two-year or four-year postsecondary degree or advanced certificate institution. Students must reside in Coos County, New Hampshire, or surrounding border communities in northeast Essex County, Vermont.

Additional Information: Students should demonstrate reasonable academic performance and a commitment to their chosen field of study. Preference will be given to students who show the greatest potential for successfully completing their postsecondary education and whose financial situation might otherwise prevent them from doing so. Students must plan to pursue early childhood studies or have identified an area of study in a field that holds strong potential for economic and career advancement such as teaching, welding, advanced manufacturing, business, information technology, electronic engineering, etc. Applicants will be notified of their status by the end of June. Awards will be made directly to the individual, not the postsecondary institution.

Award Amount: Scholarships will generally range from $2,000 to $6,000 per year depending on financial need and will be tied to academic progress. The Neil and Louise Tillotson Scholarship Fund is interested in supporting students throughout their academic career up to a four-year bachelor's degree. Each award will increase each year of academic completion and can be renewed. There is no set amount for an award. Students are expected to complete a two-year degree within two consecutive years and a four-year degree within four consecutive years. To remain eligible for continued scholarship funding, students must make sufficient academic progress to complete within the aforementioned timeframe.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $16,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online on the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation (NHCF) website. The student should apply for this award using the NHCF online application. The student need only submit one online application for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. The student must upload the following supporting documents to the online application: an essay of approximately 500 words describing his/her education and career goals; an electronic copy of the confirmation page of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); the names and email addresses for two persons who can write letters of recommendation on his/her behalf; and an electronic copy of his/her most recent cumulative transcript (unofficial accepted). For this award, the student is also required to submit a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report), which is provided to him/her after the FAFSA has been processed. If selected as a finalist, the student will also be asked to supply a copy of the financial aid package offered by the institution to be attended. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. ET on the deadline date.
