Award Amount

$250 for pre-collegiate students; $500 for undergraduate students; and $1,000 for graduate students. All awards are provided on a one-time basis and are non-renewable.


Five awards offered annually; one will be awarded to an undergraduate student, one to a graduate student, and three will be provided to pre-collegiate students.

Additional Information

ALBA is a non-profit organization devoted to the preservation and dissemination of the record of the American role in the 1936-1938 Spanish Civil War and its aftermath. Each entry will be judged on the basis of its originality, quality of research, and the effectiveness of its argument or presentation. Winning essays will be published on the ALBA website and an excerpt is published in ALBA's quarterly magazine The Volunteer. Application Instructions can be found on the provider website.
