Go On Girl! Book Club, Inc.

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a current college sophomore or junior.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must major in English, literature, journalism or a related area of study at a Historically Black college or university.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  7. Must be a female.
  8. Must be of African descent.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. female sophomore and junior students of African descent who are enrolled full time in an English, literature, journalism or related area of study at a Historically Black college or university. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or better and submit a 800-word essay on the topic the power of the written word.

Additional Information: The Go On Girl! Book Club is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit organization that supports authors of the Black African Diaspora by choosing one book per month for all club members to read. The Club reading list is formed twice a year. Members read a book each month, meet to discuss it, and then write the author of the book to express their opinions about the work. The organization as a whole recognizes the artistic achievements of these authors at annual award ceremonies. Since our founding in 1991, more than 30 chapters have been organized across the country.

Award Amount: $1000 annually, non-renewable. The winner will be invited, along with a guest, to attend the annual awards ceremony. Her work may be featured in the Go On Girl! quarterly newsletter and/or on the website.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Additional information is available online from the Go On Girl! Book Club website. To apply, the applicant must submit a 800-word essay on the power of the written word. The applicant must also include a cover sheet with the following information: name, address, phone number, email address, school name, address, telephone number, major, year in school and cumulative grade point average. Submission forms and supporting materials must be submitted through the online application form and must be received no later than the deadline.
