Number of Awards & Eligibility: 10 cash awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have an interest in writing poetry.
  3. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Description: This poetry contest is open to any student who submits an original, unpublished poem of no longer than 32 lines and the submission fee.

Additional Information: The following people are not permitted to enter the competition: employees of F&W Publications, Inc., and their immediate families, and Writer's Digest contributing editors and correspondents as listed on the masthead. Winners will be notified by March 15.

Award Amount: $1,000 for first place, $250 for second place, $100 for third place.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $170.

This is a poetry competition. Entry forms are available on the Writer's Digest website. To enter, the student must complete and print the entry form on the website, and submit a manuscript of an original, unpublished poem that is 32 lines or less. The student should type the line count on a separate cover sheet along with his/her name, address, phone number and email address. For applicants submitting online, the entry form replaces the cover sheet. The applicant must not include his/her contact information on the poem when it is submitted in the box reserved for the poem. Entries received with names and other identifying information on the poems will be disqualified. The entry must adhere to the following requirements: must be written in English, typed, and double-spaced on 8.5" X 11" single-sided white paper. The applicant may enter the competition as many times as he/she wishes. The early-bird fee is $20 for the first poem and $15 for each additional poem submitted before Oct. 1. Entries received before Nov. 1 must include $25 for the first poem and $20 for each additional entry. Entires received without the fee will be disqualified. Applications must be submitted online by midnight EST on the deadline date.
