Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to one award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must major in library science.
  3. Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen.
  4. Must be a student with a disability or disabilities.
  5. Must attend an institution accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). A list of ALA-accredited institutions is available at www.ala.org/accreditedprograms/directory.
  6. Must plan to pursue or be pursuing an eligible master's program.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Current undergraduate U.S. or Canadian citizens who have disabilities are eligible for this award. Students must pursue a master's degree in library science at an ALA-accredited institution.

  • Documentation of disability
Additional Information: The scholarship will fund services or accommodations that are either not provided by law or otherwise by the university that will enable the student or students to successfully complete their course of study. Students must demonstrate the need for financial assistance.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online on the American Library Association (ALA) website by clicking the 'Scholarships for People from Underrepresented Groups' link. Please note: Students need only complete one application to apply for all scholarships for which they are eligible. The following components are required for all ALA scholarships: a completed online application form (including a personal statement); contact information for three professional references who will be contacted with information for completing the online reference form; and official academic transcripts from the institution where the student received his/her bachelor's degree. Transcripts may be sent to ALA directly from the institution or be submitted by the student in an unopened envelope. Applicants for this scholarship must provide medical documentation of their disability or disabilities, services, or accommodations and/or services the applicant would need for their studies. Documentation should identify the applicant's disability and how it affects his/her ability to complete a course of study. Any additional supporting documents are welcome. Documentation is only used to determine eligibility for the scholarship, and will remain confidential. All application materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
