Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a second-year or later graduate student.
  3. Must be enrolled in a master's-level planning program focusing on issues related to the environment, natural resources, or energy.
  4. Must have a grade point average of B or higher (3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale).
  5. Must be enrolled in a program accredited by PAB (Planning Accreditation Board). A list of PAB-accredited programs is available online at www.planningaccreditationboard.org/index.php?id=30.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This fellowship is open to international and U.S. second-year graduate students who are enrolled in a PAB-accredited master's-level planning program focusing on issues related to the environment, natural resources or energy. Students must have a grade point average of B (3.0) or higher.

Additional Information: Preference will be given to students with APA and ENRE Division memberships. The ENRE Division's mission is to promote sound environmental, natural resources and energy planning and sound resource use policies among individual members of APA and the general public, and within the planning profession and communities of all scales. Awards will be based on: meeting the eligibility criteria; quality of the application materials; and connection of the student's course of study to the ENRE Division's mission. Following the selection process, the recipient of the fellowship award will be asked to summarize his/her research for publication in the ENRE Division's newsletter. The student selected will also be encouraged to submit an application to present a session at the APA National Planning Conference for the following year.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable. The award will be disbursed in equal installments at the end of each semester. The recipient is required to maintain the course of study identified in his/her application and maintain a grade point average of "B" or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in July for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online on the American Planning Association (APA) Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (ENRE) Division website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a recommendation letter from his/her thesis/project faculty advisor; a description of 800 words or less regarding his/her master's thesis or project, including how it relates to the APA ENRE Division's mission; an essay of 600 words or less describing his/her interest in environmental planning, experience (may include extracurricular activities), and future career goals; and a curriculum vitae or resume. All application materials must be submitted in a single .pdf document via email to the address provided by the deadline date.
