In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be an Arkansas resident for at least 6 months prior to the application deadline.
  3. Must graduate from an Arkansas high school.
  4. Must be enrolled, or be accepted for admission to, an approved school Arkansas public institution.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must enroll full-time.
  7. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  8. Must have an ACT score of 32 of higher OR an SAT score of 1410 or higher (combined score of math and critical reading) OR be a National Merit or National Achievement finalist.
  9. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.

Description: This scholarship is available for Arkansas resident high school seniors who are planning to attend an Arkansas state-supported college or university and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and an ACT score of 32 of higher or an SAT score of 1410 or higher, or are a National Merit or National Achievement finalist.

Additional Information: The Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship is the most academically rigorous scholarship program offered for those graduating seniors scoring either 32 on the ACT or 1410 on the SAT, and a 3.50 academic grade point average. Those who are named National Merit Finalists or National Achievement Scholars may qualify without meeting the GPA requirement, but must still meet the ACT/SAT requirement.

Award Amount: The scholarship pays tuition, mandatory fees, room and board up to $10,000 per year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $40,000.

Applications are available from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) website. Accessing the application requires students to register for an account using the electronic Arkansas Universal Financial Aid System. The application deadline is Feb. 1 of the year of high school graduation. The application and all supporting documentation, except National Merit/Achievement Finalist status notification, must be received by the deadline. Applications submitted after then will not be considered.
