In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must plan to attend the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.
  4. Preference is given to students with an ACT composite score of 27 or higher or the equivalent SAT score.
  5. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  6. Must plan to major in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  7. Must be a first-time entering college freshman in the fall.
  8. Must plan to attend a college or university in Arkansas.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors who plan to attend the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Students must major in electrical or mechanical engineering and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher; an ACT composite score of 27 or higher (or the SAT equivalent) is required.

Additional Information: This scholarship is a competitive opportunity for first-time entering freshman who are majoring in electrical or mechanical engineering.

Award Amount: This scholarship includes the following: full tuition per academic year for tuition, books, and/or fees and an optional $2,000 Sebastian Commons annual housing waiver for students residing on campus; and a laptop computer. The scholarship is renewable for three additional years if renewal requirements are met.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $9,384.

Information on this scholarship is available on the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith (UA Fort Smith) website under the 'Freshman Scholarships' link. To be considered for this scholarship, the student must apply for admission to UA Fort Smith. Admissions applications are available on the UA Fort Smith website by clicking on the 'Admissions' link; students may apply online or download a paper application. In addition to a completed admissions application, the student must submit the following: an official high school transcript or proof of GED completion; proof of immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella; and an official ACT or SAT student profile report or ASSET or COMPASS evaluation scores. A separate scholarship application is required for this scholarship; applications are available on the UA Fort Smith website. In addition to the completed scholarship application, the student must submit the following: an official high school transcript that covers six or more semester; official ACT and/or SAT scores; answers to the three essay questions listed on the application (all three responses should not exceed one page); and three letters of reference. References must consist of the following: an educational reference; an organizational reference outside of school (church, United Way, Salvation Army, etc.); and an employer or someone that can speak to work ethic. Please note that one section of the application must be completed by the student's high school counselor or principal. The application and all required attachments must be submitted by the deadline date. Early application is recommended.
