Number of Awards & Eligibility: A limited number of awards is available.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be planning to major in a field related to public works.
  6. Must be a resident of OR must be planning to attend a college/university in Los Angeles or Orange County, California.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The American Public Works Association (APWA) Southern California Chapter High School Senior Scholarship is available for students in Los Angeles or Orange County, CA who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a degree and/or career related to public works.

Application requirements for the APWA Southern California Chapter High School Senior Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Interview
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
Additional Information: Finalists may be required to conduct an interview with the judging committee. All winners are required to agree to a minimum of four hours participating in and promoting various APWA activities.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 scholarships offered.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications and information about this award can be found online at the website of the Southern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA). To be considered for an award, applicants must submit: a completed application form; an essay of between 200 and 400 words addressing the student's educational plans and how these plans will effect his or her future; and two letters of recommendation. At least one letter of recommendation must be submitted by a faculty member at the high school the student attends, and no letters may be submitted by family members. Completed applications must be mailed to provided postal address, or emailed to the provided email address no later than the deadline date. . If emailed, applicants must compile one PDF file in the following specific order: application; essay; letters of recommendation; and unofficial transcripts).
