Number of Awards & Eligibility: One scholarship will be provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in Moorpark or Simi Valley in California.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior or first year student at Ventura County Community College.
  3. Must be enrolled at or planning to enroll at a Ventura County community college.

Description: The Supervisor Jim Dougherty Scholarship Fund is available for graduating high school seniors who plan to attend Ventura County Community College, as well as freshman currently enrolled at VCCC. Applicants must reside in Moorpark or Simi Valley in California.

Additional Information: The Supervisor Jim Dougherty Scholarship Fund is provided annually through the Ventura County Community College and seeks to assist students from Moorpark and Simi Valley High Schools who demonstrate high academic achievement as well as unmet financial need. Applicants must plan to attend Ventura County Community College or must already be enrolled there as a first year student.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications for the Supervisor Jim Dougherty Scholarship Fund are available online at the Ventura County Community Foundation website. To apply for an award, students must complete all sections of the online application form. Applicants must also submit an original essay in response to the award's topic, as well as two letters of recommendation. At least one letter of recommendation must be submitted by a current faculty member at the school the student is attending. All applications and supporting documents must be received by the deadline date.
