Number of Awards & Eligibility: In 2019, 820 caddies applied for the Evans Scholarship and 285 Scholarships were awarded for the 2020-2021 academic year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have caddied, successfully and regularly, for two or more years at a Western Golf Association (WGA) member club. For more information on WGA clubs, the student should visit www.westerngolfassociation.com.
  3. Must have a grade point average of B (3.0) or higher.
  4. Must have taken the ACT.
  5. Must attend any of the 14 colleges designated by the Evans Scholars Foundation: University of Colorado, Boulder, CO; University of Illinois, Champaign, IL; Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL; Northwestern University, Evanston, IL; Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN; Indiana University, Bloomington, IN; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI; Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI; University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN; University of Missouri, Columbia, MO; Miami University, Oxford, OH; Ohio State University, Columbus, OH; University of Oregon, Eugene, OR; Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR; University of Washington, Seattle, WA; Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI; and University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. In other states, students can attend a flagship state university of their state or a university with an Evans Scholarship House on campus, as approved by the scholarship committee.
  6. Must have completed his/her junior year of high school at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is for high school seniors who have caddied, successfully and regularly, for two or more years at a Western Golf Association (WGA) member club. Eligible students must also have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have taken the ACT; students must also attend an eligible college as defined by the Evans Scholars Foundation.

Application requirements for the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Applicants must clearly establish their need for financial assistance and must be outstanding in character, integrity, and leadership. Candidates who reach the finals in scholarship competition will be interviewed by the selection committee at selection meetings held between December and March. Each finalist will be considered on the basis of overall record and financial need. Candidates are advised of the committee's decision promptly after their interview. Recipients must live on campus at their university. If the university the student attends has an Evans Scholarship House on campus (established and maintained by the Evans Scholars Foundation), the student must live there.

Award Amount: The award covers tuition and housing at an eligible university. It may be renewed for up to four years at the foundation's option.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $27,856.

In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a 'High School Evaluation' (along with an official transcript, including overall grade point average, rank in class if available, and standardized test scores) and a high school letter of recommendation; a 'Caddie Evaluation' (along with letters of recommendation from the sponsoring club officials, which are the club president, caddie/golf committee chairperson, golf professional and caddie superintendent); and official financial documentation including a copy of his/her parents' most recent federal tax return and the required College Scholarship Service Financial Aid Profile. The Evans Scholars Foundation code for the College Scholarship Service Financial Aid Profile is 0153. Please note: All candidates are required to take the American College Test (ACT). Candidates may have their ACT scores sent directly to the Evans Scholars Foundation. The Evans Scholars Foundation ACT code is 1026. Applications must be submitted online after Aug. 1 and before October 30.
