Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  4. Must be a resident of Colorado.
  5. Must have a documented learning disability (including ADD/ADHD).
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher.

Additional Information: The ideal candidate for this scholarship is a student who has faced the challenges of having a learning disability and understands the importance of self-advocacy and self-knowledge in overcoming those challenges; and is willing to serve as a role model for other students with learning disabilities. The name of the scholarship winner will be announced in May. Please note: Students enrolled in Cheyenne Mountain High School's LEAD program, who are candidates for other LEAD Foundation scholarships, are excluded from this scholarship.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. The award will be disbursed to the college/university of the scholarship winner during August. The scholarship may not be deferred to any subsequent year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online on the LEAD (Learning and Educating About Disabilities) Foundation website or by contacting the scholarship chair using the information provided. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: brief essay responses to the questions listed on the application (each response should be 50 words or less); two pages or less of documentation of his/her disability from a certified professional (can include testing, I.E.P.'s, and/or 504s); a complete high school transcript (original and certified by the school's counseling/guidance office); and two letters of recommendation of one page each. One reference must be from a teacher who is aware of the student's disability and its impact on his/her life, and the other must be from an employer or supervisor/coordinator of an extracurricular activity. A third letter of recommendation from another source is optional. A parent's or guardian's signature is required on the application if the student is under 18 years of age. The application and all additional materials must be submitted in one packet to Jamie Brown at the address listed, and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
