Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must major in nursing.
  3. Must be a member or the descendent of a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate scholarship.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Madeline Pickett (Halbert) Cogswell Nursing Scholarship, in the amount of $2,500, is awarded to two students who are accepted or enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. Applicants must be members, descendant of members or be eligible for membership in NSDAR. The DAR member number must be on the application.

Application requirements for the Madeline Pickett Halbert Cogswell Nursing Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • FAFSA
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
  • Proof of citizenship
Additional Information: The DAR member number of the mother, grandmother or step-mother, who is a current dues paying member, must be on the Application. General Eligibility Requirements include: Applicants must be citizens of the United States to apply for a scholarship offered by the DAR Scholarship Committee. Applicants must also attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States. DAR chapter sponsorship is not required. But, applicants may want to reach out to a DAR chapter in their area for help with their applications.

Award Amount: Up to $2,500 offered annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
