Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must meet admissions requirements of the University of North Florida.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be accepted in the UNF College of Education and Human Services as a college junior or senior or graduate student.
  5. Must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher as a junior or senior student, or a 3.5 or higher as a graduate student.
  6. Must pursue a degree in education with preference given to students pursuing a teaching career in an urban school. (Note: An urban school is defined as a school with a high percentage of students on free or reduced lunch programs, a high mobility and absentee rate, a high percentage of minority and immigrant students, and a high percentage of low socio-economic status students.)
  7. Must enroll full time (12 credit hours) each semester and earn at least 24 credits by the end of each academic year if an undergraduate student; OR enroll part time (6 credit hours) each semester and earn at least 12 credits by the end of each academic year if a graduate student.

Description: This scholarship is available to U.S. college juniors and seniors and graduate students who are accepted to the University of North Florida College of Education and Human Services. Students must pursue a degree in education with preference given to students pursuing a teaching career in an urban school, and must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher if undergraduate and 3.5 or higher if graduate.

Additional Information: Recipients are chosen by a selection committee. Students will be notified of their selection status in April or May. Recipients will be recognized at an awards reception in the fall. Students must attend the awards reception as a condition of receiving the scholarship or fellowship. Recipients must meet the following responsibilities: maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher if an undergraduate junior/senior or 3.5 or higher if a graduate student; consent to release grades to the Division of Institutional Advancement for the purpose of reporting to the donor; comply with all University regulations, rules, and codes of conduct governing students on campus; and remain in good standing as a student.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, disbursed in equal installments in fall and spring terms. Current recipients may apply for renewal and will be given preference, pending availability of funding, and if all scholarship/fellowship requirements have been met. Undergraduate or transfer students will be eligible to receive up to 4 semesters or 65 credit hours of scholarship support. Graduate students will be eligible to receive up to 6 semesters or 36 credit hours of fellowship support.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
