Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must meet admissions requirements of the University of North Florida.
  4. Must reside in Florida for tuition purposes and live in Nassau, Duval, Baker, Clay, or St. Johns counties. First preference will be given to student(s) living in Nassau County, and second preference will be given to student(s) living in Duval County.
  5. Must be enrolled as a junior, senior, or graduate student.
  6. Must major in special education.
  7. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  8. Must enroll full time (12 credit hours) each semester and earn 24 credit hours by the end of each academic year if an undergraduate; OR enroll part time (6 credit hours) each semester and earn 12 credit hours by the end of each academic year if a graduate.

Description: This scholarship is available to Florida resident college junior, senior, and graduate students who have been accepted to the University of North Florida College of Education and Human Services as a special education major. Students must reside in Nassau, Duval, Baker, Clay, or St. Johns counties, and must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Application requirements for the UNF Kristi Wilder “Are You My Friend?” Endowed Scholarship/Fellowship are:

  • Official Transcript (if new sutdent)
  • FAFSA (if undergraduate)
Additional Information: Undergraduate students must demonstrate financial need as defined by UNF's Office of Financial Aid. Recipients are chosen by a selection committee. Students will be notified of their selection status in April or May. Recipients will be recognized at an awards reception in the fall. Students must attend the awards reception as a condition of receiving the scholarship or fellowship. Recipients must meet the following responsibilities: maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher; consent to release grades to the Division of Institutional Advancement for the purpose of reporting to the donor; comply with all University regulations, rules, and codes of conduct governing students on campus; remain in good standing as a student; and file the FAFSA each year if an undergraduate student.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, disbursed in equal installments in the fall and spring terms. Current recipients may apply for renewal and will be given preference, pending availability of funding, and if all scholarship/fellowship requirements have been met. Undergraduate students will be eligible to receive up to 5 semesters of scholarship support. Graduate students will be eligible to receive up to 5 semesters or 36 credit hours of fellowship support.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
