Number of Awards & Eligibility: 16 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be an employee or dependent of an employee of ABC Stores.
  3. Must be a resident of Hawai'i, Nevada, Guam or Saipan.
  4. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 or more credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits or more per semester for graduate).
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  7. Must demonstrate academic achievement by having a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Description: This scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate students who are residents of Hawai'i, Nevada, Guam, or Saipan, and are employees or the dependents of an employee of ABC Stores. Students must also demonstrate academic achievement by having a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Information: This scholarship was established to further the education of ABC Stores' employees and their dependents. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $1,312 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,992.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The student will also be required to provide the name of the ABC Stores employee under whom he/she is applying and the employee's relationship to him/her. Note: Students WILL NOT be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST.
