Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must have completed at least one year of a community college program, or two years at a four-year college or university.
  5. Must demonstrate superior academic achievement.

Description: This scholarship is available for Maine undergraduate and graduate students who have completed at least one year of a community college program or two years at a four-year college or university. Applications will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and unmet financial need.

Additional Information: The Richard H. Pierce Memorial Scholarship was created in 2011 to honor the memory of the man who created the Maine Educational Foundation. Richard had a lifelong commitment to higher education, and constantly worked to make education attainable to as many people as possible. Each applicant will be evaluated based on the following criteria: demonstrating high levels of academic achieveent; expressing serious intent in his/her educational plan; showing exceptional financial need (he/she may be asked to furnish documentation of financial need); and expressing a continuing commitment to future contribution to his/her community.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available online on the Maine Education Services (MES) Foundation website. All components of the application must be submitted online by the deadline date, and any mailed components must be submitted to the address provided and postmarked by the same date. The following information is required for the application to be considered complete: applicant information, work experience, educational history, school/community activities, an essay on career goals, financial information, special financial circumstances, and a community reference.
