Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must be planning to pursue a culinary arts or hospitality-oriented program. Culinary arts students will be given first consideration.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Maine undergraduate students who plan to pursue a career in culinary arts or hospitality. Culinary arts students will be given first consideration.

Application requirements for the Russ Casey Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letters (3)
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: The selection committee will give consideration to the following criteria in making a final selection: desire for career in food service industry; employment record and extracurricular activities; financial need (determined based on information obtained in application and interview); and scholastic record. The scholarship must be used within 12 months of being awarded.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year. The scholarship may be used to defray the costs of tuition, supplies, room or board. The scholarship will be issued jointly to the institution and the student.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available on the Maine Restaurant Association (MRA) website by searching for "scholarship". In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a high school transcript; three letters of reference (two from teachers or counselors, and one from a member of the Maine Restaurant Association); and a typed letter of not more than 300 words describing his/her affiliation with the hospitality industry, why he/she is applying for this scholarship, and his/her career goals. Applications and all supporting materials must be sent to the address provided, and must be received by the deadline date.
