Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international students and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate to apply for this award.
  3. Must be a resident of a New England State or enrolled in a college or university in New England.
  4. Must show proof of intent to pursue a career in the employee benefits field through either course of study or work experience.

Description: This award is available for undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate an interest in a career in the employee benefits field through either course of study or work experience. The applicant must be a resident of a New England state or be enrolled in a college in New England.

Additional Information: The New England Employee Benefits Council Scholarship is provided annually to advance the educational opportunities and learning potential of students interested in pursuing careers related to benefits and benefit management. Eligible career paths in the employee benefits field include: jobs and training in the actuarial sciences; ERISA and other legal compliance aspects of employee benefits; careers in pension design and planning; work and family issues; and careers in corporate employee benefits design, analysis, and management. Award selection will be based on the applicant's educational performance and his/her career aspirations and goals. Some of the other criteria used by the scholarship committee in determining award recipients are: school and community activities, work experience, future potential and academic performance. Current NEEBC Board members, their spouses, and their dependent children are not eligible to participate.

Award Amount: Up to $3,000 awarded annually, renewable upon submission of supporting documentation, for the amount of time normally required to earn a degree, but in no instance will exceed four years. Please note: Scholarships are awarded to supplement other formal programs but will not exceed the annual tuition fee and on-campus room and board charges.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Applications are available on the New England Employee Benefits Council (NEEBC) website. The applicant may also contact the NEEBC office using the contact information provided to request a copy of the application. In addition to the completed application, the following materials must be submitted: all college transcript(s); a minimum of two letters of recommendation from college professors, NEEBC members, or other benefits professionals; and an essay of 500 words or less describing his/her interest in entering the employee benefits field, careers within the field that are of interest to him/her, and his/her reasons for being interested. The application and all supporting materials must be postmarked by the deadline date and returned to the address provided.
