Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered annually varies based on the amount of funds available.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a current legal resident of Mississippi.
  3. Must enroll full time.
  4. Must be certified as a dependent child or spouse of any Mississippi law enforcement officer, full-time firefighter, or volunteer fire fighter who has suffered fatal injuries or wounds which occurred in the performance of the official and appointed duties of his/her office OR certified as the dependent child or spouse of any Mississippi law enforcement officer, full-time firefighter, or volunteer fire fighter who has become permanently and totally disabled as a result of injuries or wounds which occurred in the performance of the official and appointed duties of his/her office.
  5. Must attend a state-supported college or university in Mississippi.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  7. Must be admitted or enrolled at an eligible postsecondary institution as an undergraduate.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Mississippi undergraduate students who are planning to enroll full time at a state-supported college or university in Mississippi. The student must be the spouse or dependent child of a fatally injured or totally disabled law officer or fireman.

  • Parent's/Spouse's tax return & driver's license
Additional Information: The Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid will make awards on a first-come first-served basis according to the level of funding available.

Award Amount: Scholarship funds cover the cost of tuition, including required fees, and the average cost of campus housing at any state-supported college or university within the state of Mississippi. Funding cannot exceed eight semesters, or until a child recipient reaches 23 years of age as of the first day of the semester. Students must reapply each year for renewal funding.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $8,416.

Applications are available online from the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid (MOSFA) website. In addition to a completed online application, the student must submit the following documents: a signed copy of the first two pages of his/her parent's or spouse's state tax return for the current tax filing year; and a copy of his/her parent's or spouse's valid Mississippi driver's license (may be submitted electronically during the application). Applications must be submitted by the deadline date.
