Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 36 awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a Korean American student.
  4. Must be a full-time student.
  5. Must be a resident of the midwestern region of the United States, as determined by KASF.
  6. Must attend a college and/or university in the midwestern region of the United States, as determined by the Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF). The eligible states are the following: Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is offered to Korean-American undergraduate or graduate students who are currently enrolled in college and are residents of the midwestern region of the United States as defined by the Korean American Scholarship Fund. The following states are eligible: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Application requirements for the KASF Midwestern Region Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Essay
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Personal statement
  • Photograph
Additional Information: Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, school activities and community services. Recipients will be announced in July and the scholarship award banquet will be held in August. Note: Recipients are not required to attend the banquet.

Award Amount: $500 to $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.

Applications are available online on the Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF) website. Applications will be accepted beginning on April 1. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a photograph of himself/herself; two completed recommendation forms, at least one of which must be from a teacher or professor (forms are available on the KASF website); copies of transcripts;; a copy of his/her ACT or SAT score report; an essay of 500 words or less on one of the two listed topics; and a personal statement of 200 words or less about himself/herself, his/her family, and his/her financial need. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online prior to the deadline date.
