Description: The Marvin Brooks Educational Fund is available for graduating high school seniors in Jackson County, Missouri who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and unmet financial need.

Additional Information: The Marvin Brooks Educational Fund is provided annually to graduating high school seniors in Jackson County, Missouri who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and unmet financial need. The award is provided in honor of Marvin Brooks, a local area man who devoted his life to education as a teacher, principal, and leader in the Kansas City School District. Award selection will be based on a combination of academic achievement, unmet financial need, as well as the strength of submitted recommendation letters and other application materials. This scholarship is administered through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (GKCCF), a local area charity founded in 1978 with the purpose of providing a dedicated and consolidated resource for diverse and otherwise unrelated charity efforts. From its humble beginnings, the scope of the GKCCF has expanded to include the broader regional area, as well as national inititatives, scholarships, and other programs designed to benefit communities across the country.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications and information about the Marvin Brooks Educational Fund are available online at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (GKCCF) website. To be considered for this scholarship, students must submit a completed online application form as well as the following documents and responses to the supplemental questions: a completed educational budget section of the application; an essay of up to 500 words in length addressing the topic on the application; a brief personal statement detailing any unusual circumstances or causes of financial need; and two letters of recommendation from someone who is not related to the applicant. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online by the deadline date. Any late or incomplete submissions will be discarded.
