Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. All eligible students will be considered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must plan to attend the University of Iowa.
  4. Must not be a resident of Iowa for tuition purposes.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale if his/her high school does not rank.
  6. Must have an ACT score of 26 or higher (or a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1170 or higher) if his/her high school does not rank.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for available to U.S. students who are not residents of Iowa and are planning to attend the University of Iowa. Students must meet have an University of Iowa (UI) Regent Admission Index (RAI) score of 290 or higher, or a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and an ACT score of 26 or higher (or an SAT score of 1170 or higher).

Application requirements for the University of Iowa National Scholars Award (NSA) are:

  • Application form
  • $40 app. fee
  • ACT/SAT scores
Additional Information: If the student's school ranks, he/she must have a Regent Admission Index (RAI) score of 290 or higher. The RAI factors the student's ACT score, high school percentile rank, high school grade point average, and the number of high school courses completed in core subject areas. Additional information is available online at admissions.uiowa.edu/rai.

Award Amount: $4,996 annually, renewable for up to three additional years or until completion of a bachelor's degree (whichever comes first) if the student maintains continuous full-time enrollment at UI, maintains a grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and continues to pay non-resident tuition. Please note: If tuition increases, the scholarship amount will increase by the same percent.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $19,984.

Students must apply for admission to University of Iowa (UI) to be considered for this award. An additional scholarship application is not required. Admissions information is available online on the UI website at admissions.uiowa.edu/apply/first-year-student-application-process . In addition to the online application, the student must also pay the non-refundable $40 application fee and have ACT and/or SAT scores sent to UI directly from the testing agency. Students must apply for admission no later than March 1 to be considered for this scholarship.
