Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must major in hospitality management.
  4. Must have an overall grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  5. Must attend an AH&LA-affiliated four-year institution. A list of the eligible institutions is available on the AH&LEF website.
  6. Must be enrolled in an eligible program for the upcoming fall and spring semesters (or fall semester only if graduating in December).
  7. Must enroll in 12 or more credit hours each semester.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. undergraduate students who are enrolled in a hospitality management program and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for this award. Applicants must attend and be nominated by an American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) member school.

Additional Information: This scholarship honors Arthur J. Packard, who never waited for the lodging industry to ask him to volunteer his time and boundless energy. A third-generation hotelier, his work for AH&LA extended over 30 years, one of the longest on record. Students are evaluated based on academics, related work experience, extracurricular activities, financial need, honors, and personal attributes.

Award Amount: The first-place winner receives a $5,000 scholarship. The second-place winner receives a $3,000 scholarship. The third-place winner receives a $2,000 scholarship. All awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in November for a refreshed application deadline date.Please note: All applicants for this award must be nominated by their institution. Participating schools are required to send a nomination form confirming their nominees and providing suggested award amounts. AH&LEF will not consider applicants for these awards without verification of nomination from their respective schools.All students must apply via the AH&LEF online application. The student need only complete one application to apply for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible.As part of the online application, the student must provide the following supporting materials: an essay of 500 words or less describing his/her personal background; financial information, to include anticipated expenses for the upcoming academic year, financial data from his/her most recent tax return, and financials to date; his/her most recent college, high school, or GED transcript that includes a cumulative grade point average based upon a 4.0 scale (strongly advised to upload transcript to application); and two letters of recommendation, one from an instructor and one from an employer (strongly advised to upload letters to application).Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on the deadline date.
