Number of Awards & Eligibility: At least fifteen awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of New Mexico.
  2. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  3. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student at the time of application.
  4. Must identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or a straight ally.

Description: This scholarship is available for students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or a straight ally dedicated to LGBT causes. Applicants must reside in New Mexico and must enroll in an accredited institution of higher education during the semester following scholarship application.

Additional Information: Since May 1997, when the scholarship program for LGBT youth was established, PFLAG Santa Fe has awarded scholarships totalling $278,500. The scholarship program provides an important positive statement to a segment of our population that is frequently deprived of needed support.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available at the Greater Boston Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) website. In addition to a completed application form and essay responses, students must submit two letters of reference from an individual who is familiar with the applicant's community service efforts and dedication to the LGBT community. One recommender may be a family member, but one must be one the student is not related to. Applicants must provide the name and contact information of those two individuals who are providing references. All application materials and supporting documents must be emailed to the address provided above, and must be submitted by the deadline date.
