Number of Awards & Eligibility: 40 awards offered annually. Approximately 1,300 applications are received each year for this award. About two thirds of the annual awards are given to North Carolina residents.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen. Permanent residents are not eligible.
  3. Must be a high school senior who is applying for fall freshman admission into a baccalaureate program.
  4. Must have taken Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes.
  5. Typical recipients have a grade point average of 'A' and an SAT score that is above the average NCSU incoming freshman score of 1190.
  6. Must plan to attend North Carolina State University.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors who plan to attend North Carolina State University. Students must have taken AP or IB courses; recipients typically have a grade point average of 'A' and an SAT score above 1190.

Additional Information: Park Scholars are selected on the basis of academic merit, exemplary character, exceptional potential for leadership, and the sense of promise that they may one day make contributions of enduring importance to the betterment of the human condition. Financial need is not a consideration. After review of applications, between 200-225 candidates will be invited for semi-finalist interviews. All North Carolina residents must have in-person interviews; candidates in selected regions will also have in-person interviews. All other interviews will be by phone. Interviews will take place between Jan. 7-8. Finalists will be invited to on-campus selection activites. Students will participate in a group discussion activity and an interview; the Park Scholars are selected based on their performance in these two activities. Park Scholars will be notified on March 6 of their status.

Award Amount: Four-year scholarship valued at $112,000 for in-state students and $203,000 for out-of-state students, including tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, travel, and personal expenses  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000,000.

Students apply for this scholarship by applying for admission to North Carolina State University (NCSU) using its online 'WolfPAW' application system. The student must have an endorsement in order to access the Park Scholarship section of the application. The student must be endorsed by his/her high school if the school is on the 'Endorsing Schools List' available on the Park Scholarships website. Endorsements must be completed by Oct. 15. If the school is not listed, students may submit a self-endorsement on or before Nov. 1. In addition to the completed Park Scholarship application, the student must submit the following: two essays; the names of two recommenders, who must submit recommendations using the online form provided to them in an email (strongly suggested that at least one recommender be a teacher, counselor, or high school principal); one official transcript; and information about AP or IB courses. All application materials may be submitted online through the WolfPAW system, with the exception of the official transcript, which must be mailed to the address provided. Materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 1. (Please note: The student must take the SAT by October and/or the ACT by September to ensure that scores reach NCSU in time.)
